PLASMA RICH IN GROWTH FACTORS (PFRG)
WHAT IS PLASMA RICH IN GROWTH FACTORS (PRFG)?
Plasma rich in growth factors (PRFG) is a technology widely used in other fields of medicine that we are already applying in Assisted Reproduction. It is based on the principles of regenerative medicine using the beneficial effects of the growth factors of the same patient in a specific tissue. Growth factors are proteins that make platelets and that regulate and activate the metabolic circuits of cells, making them work much more efficiently and reactivating their function. With this tissue conditioning, we achieve a recovery of the functionality of the treated tissue.
PLASMA RICH IN GROWTH FACTORS APPLIED IN ENDOMETRIUM
We know that it is essential to have a good quality endometrium for evolutionary implantation to take place. Close attention must be paid to endometrial quality, especially in Assisted Reproduction Treatments, since endometrial conditions must be optimal.
Sometimes we do not achieve the desired endometrial thickness and it does not grow naturally or with the usual pharmacological treatments. . This endometrium that we call refractory will not be functional and will not allow implantation. We can also find endometria that, even though they have the correct size, cannot be implanted by good quality embryos and these implantation failures have an endometrial cause. Just as, after certain uterine surgeries, it is necessary to normalize the function of the endometrium.
With the treatment with growth factors from the patient’s own blood plasma, we seek to regenerate the cells that make up this endometrium and recover both the function of the tissue and its homeostasis. In this way, we get the myometrium to recover its functionality and create receptive endometria.
PROCEDURE
A blood sample is obtained from the patient from which a centrifuge is performed to concentrate all the platelets in that sample. This platelet concentrate is activated to release the growth factors they contain and which will be placed in the patient’s uterus. In this treatment we make 3 applications of the growth factor concentrate every 48 hours, the last 3 days being before the embryo transfer. The application is carried out in the same consultation and the patient can leave the clinic with a brief rest.
The improvement of endometrial quality can determine the result of a reproduction treatment favoring embryo implantation and as it is a treatment with the patient’s own biological material there is no associated risk.

- Patients with repeated scrapings
- Asherman’s syndrome
- Implementation failures
- Repeat miscarriages
