NUTRITION AS A BASIS FOR REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH
We have more and more scientific evidence that nutrition is basic in the conservation of a good state of health. We know that acquiring healthy eating habits helps to extend life expectancy, avoid chronic metabolic diseases and prevent the development of certain diseases as well as certain types of cancers. Also, when we consider having a child, nutrition is very important.
At Embriogyn we understand that in order to take care of all the preconceptional elements it is necessary to make an assessment of all the aspects of the person who wants to have a child. And nutrition is essential to consider when facing a pregnancy. Both the mother and the father-to-be must take care of themselves and ensure good nutrition and hydration by taking care of their diet.
SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE
In recent years, several studies have been published that demonstrate the beneficial effect of good nutritional habits in the face of conception in order to maximize the possibility of pregnancy.
It should be noted that we are not only talking about avoiding deficiencies of certain vitamins (B12, B9 …) that are associated with neonatal malformations but we must also bear in mind that bad habits can affect the quality of seminal or ova.
In order for this diet to be global and balanced, it is essential to influence the diet that is adopted.
SOME OF THE SERVICES THE UNIT OFFERS
We must be well informed about which foods are richest in the nutrients that are necessary and essential to promote reproductive health beyond the pre-conceptional pharmacological supplementation that we can take.
It must be taken into account that during pregnancy a woman will enter a period where her body will experience very important metabolic changes and that the special nutritional needs that she will require to promote healthy fetal growth and avoid malformations and deficiencies in the mother and the baby must be carefully assessed.
The fact of following an alimentary pattern, like the Mediterranean one, has been demonstrated in numerous studies that it increases the percentage of pregnancy in a remarkable way. On the other hand, foods have been described that can interfere with the process of conception, either by affecting the ovulation process, reducing the possibility of implantation, the number of spermatozoa or their mobility. So much so, that Embriogyn has developed a specific diet for our egg donors to promote the maximum quality of their eggs apart from looking after their health.
There are cases where nutritional advice will be of vital importance to regulate certain hormonal or metabolic imbalances such as obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, intolerance, dyslipemias … In these cases, being able to put yourself in the hands of a nutritionist will allow you to regulate and prepare your body for a healthy gestation.
Good nutritional advice, personalized and adapted to the needs of each person, can help us to improve our gestation capacities.
WHAT CAN I DO TO INCREASE THE CHANCES THAT THE TREATMENT WILL BE SUCCESSFUL?
Many times patients who undergo an Insemination or In Vitro Fertilization ask us this same question, because part of the answer is in their hands: they must follow a good, balanced and healthy diet.
Given this evidence, the Embriogyn team considered it appropriate to develop the Nutrition Service, which has the doors open to all interested people who want to put themselves in the hands of a nutritionist specializing in the pre-conception stage (man and woman), in pregnancy and postpartum and lactation. In addition, having a good education and nutritional knowledge will be basic to be able to take care of the future baby.
