WHAT DOES EMBRYO ADOPTION CONSIST OF?
One of the options in Assisted Reproduction to form a family is the anonymous adoption of embryos. After a Fertilization treatment in vitro that has ended in a successful pregnancy, there may be leftover frozen embryos that are kept for the future. When patients see their reproductive process completed, they may have the option of altruistically donating these embryos to other couples to make their dream come true.
THE PHASES OF THE EMBRYO ADOPTION PROCESS
FIRST VISIT
The first step in treatment is always to have an initial visit with one of our fertility specialist gynecologists. During this visit, a comprehensive study of the patient’s or couple’s reproductive history will be carried out.
The center is the one who carries out the embryo allocation taking into account different aspects of phenotypic similarity, blood group and RH, and geographical area. These characteristics will be necessary to be able to carry out a correct embryo allocation according to the center’s availability.
PREPARATION OF THE UTERUS
The embryo adoption process is a simple cryotransfer procedure, in which you only need to prepare the uterus to receive the embryo or embryos to be transferred.
THAWING AND TRANSFER
The embryos are thawed in the laboratory with a process called devitrification, and their survival is assessed.
The transfer of thawed embryos is carried out on the same day or two days after thawing. It is a simple and painless procedure in which one or two embryos are placed in the uterus with the help of a catheter.
In the days following the transfer, you can lead a normal life, and it is good to try to stay calm and maintain a positive attitude.
PREGNANCY TEST ULTRASOUND
The pregnancy test is performed between 9 and 11 days after embryo transfer. It is a test that can be done comfortably at home with the first urine of the morning.
Three weeks after the positive test, the viability of the pregnancy is checked by ultrasound.
